The Sino-German Biomedical Center of Hubei University of Technology was founded in the early of 2013, and officially initiated its research in the March 2014. The main research areas of the Centre are virology and regenerative medicine, towards exploring replication mechanisms and pathogenesis of hepatitis viruses (HBV, HCV)as well as searching for novel antiviral targets, which would be expected to be applied for the clinic treatments against chronic hepatitis.
Additionally, we have developed a novel three-dimensional perfusion cell culture technology. As a valuable platform, it is widely used for the in vitro induction of differentiated cells and tissue derived from stem cells, aiming at replacing damaged tissues due to diseases. The HBUT plans to invest within three years more than 14 million RMB Yuan, to construct a complete new Center with about 1,000 square meters, including the molecular biology division, the cell biology division, the tissue engineering division, the core facility, the isotope lab as well as the animal unit etc.
Prof. Dr. Kanghong Hu is now the director of the Center. Several worldwide famous scientists in the field of virology and regenerative medicine were appointed as the academic committees. A dynamic academic team has been gradually formed including professors, associate professors, junior scientists, laboratory technicians and graduate students. In 2013, the UBUT invested 1.5 million RMB Yuan to purchase a batch of conventional equipment such as the high-resolution fluorescence microscopy and quantitative PCR instrument etc.
