On November 20th, the fourteenth final of the Challenge-Cup Extracurricular and Academic Contest wrapped up at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Three of our students, Wang Jun, Guan Laiqing, and Hu Yongtao, won the first prize which is a first in the history of our school. Only 4 other universities of Hubei - Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Central China Normal University, and Wuhan University of Technology - have won first prizes.
The students' work, laser induced bionic super hydrophobic surface, was guided by teachers Liu Dun and Chen Lie of the Mechanics Institute.The competition, undertaken first by universities of Guangdong and Hong Kong, attracted participants from nearly two thousands colleges and two million college students. There are 528 colleges (include 7 Hong Kong universities and 3 Macau universities) in the Four Regions across the Straight and 1,569 entries in the preliminaries and semi-finals.
