The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was founded in 1985. After over three decades of development, the school has become a medium scale facility with a reasonable course arrangement. The school attaches equal importance to teaching and research. Electrical and electronic engineering is the unique feature of the school. The school has 4 departments, 2 research institutes, and 1 experimentation center. There are 4 undergraduate majors, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Automation, Communication Engineering and Electronic Information Engineering one of which, electrical engineering and automation, is a unique national major, and a Hubei top major. Electrical engineering and automation (solar power technology and engineering) has been included in the “national excellent engineer education plan”.

The school has 126 faculty and staff, among which 97 full-time teachers, 76 master supervisors, 19 professors, 33 assistant professors, 68 doctors. 3 State Council Special Allowance Receiver Expert, and 7 Hubei Provincial Talents. Some other famous scholars and experts are emplyed as part-time professor of the school. The school is the subordinate unit of Wuhan Electrotechnical Society and National Electrical Engineering Education Committee.  

The school is the leading unit of “solar power high efficiency exploitation, Hubei collaborative innovation center". Electrical engineering is a provincial key discipline; electrical and electronic experiment center is a provincial experiment demonstration center. The school has 1 national college student practice base off campus, and 2 provincial school-enterprise joint product R&D center; a provincial college student internship base, and a provincial postgraduate student workstation respectively.

The school attaches high importance to research. In last five years, the school has undertaken over 110 projects related to National 863 projects, national natural science fund projects, provincial natural sciences fund projects, and more than 300 corporate cooperation projects. More than 250 indexed papers have been published. The school has published 22 scholarly monographs and edited 22 teaching materials, and has been granted more than 260 patents.

The school has more than 2,700 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students. The school attaches importance to the cultivation of the engineering skills of students, and educates students in a wide-range approach. The students have won prizes in national college student electrical and mathematical modeling contests, national college student electronic design contests, national college student Freescale Cup smart car contests, and more.  The graduates have solid knowledge, strong practical skills, and are well received by society. In the last five years, the employment rate of students has been better than 96%.

The school has wide communication and cooperation with universities and research institutes around the world, and has established partnerships with universities and institutes of the United States, Britain, France, Japan, Canada, Finland, and more. The school has joined with Anglia Ruskin University (Britain) to establish the electronic information engineering international joint education program.
