The first Student English Salon of the autumn semester, 2017 started at 2:00 pm on September 12th in Room 208 of No.3 Teaching Building.
The lecture was on American College life given by Joseph Daniel Devine, one of the foreign English teachers in our university.
Joseph shared the university teaching system and campus life in America. He also discussed the differences of university life such as enrollment and study between China and America. The lecture was full of colorful stories Joseph shared from his own college experience.
20 students from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the School of Art and Design, the School of Industrial Design, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Foreign Languages attended the salon.
Students English Salon is held by the Department of International Relations. The salon’s goal is to great a relaxed and positive atmosphere to improve the student’s English proficiency and cross cultural communication skills.
The salon is available from 14:00 to 15:35 every Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lectures cover the skills of English learning (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), information of study abroad, cross-cultural exchanges and other topics. There are different foreign teachers giving various lectures, discussions, or activities each time. The signing up system for the salon is available every Friday through the students exchange abroad QQ group (125865363) and “@湖工大国际” (Department of International Relations, Hubei University of Technology) on sina weibo to all the students of our university. Spaces are limited and available on a first come first serve basis.
