School of Foreign Languages
The School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of Hubei University of Technology is located at Xunsi River, next to the Nanhu bank of Wuhan. The School began originally as the Department of Foreign Language Teaching in 1978 and took on its current name in 2004. Currently the School offers three undergraduate programs (English, Business English, and Chinese International Education), and two master’s programs (Category I Discipline in Foreign Language and Literature, and Chinese International Education). “Foreign Language and Literature” is listed as a key cultivation discipline in the university.
The SFL owns tremendous teachers strength, with existing staff 112, including 11 professors and 46 associate professors,28 master’s supervisors. 95% teachers have master’s degree or above, including 28 doctors. More than 80 teachers successively went to Britain, America, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan and other countries to study or visit. In recent years, a number of young teachers stood out and gained excellent achievements in the provincial and school-level teaching competitions.
The SFL is equipped with abundant and advanced teaching and studying facilities. The course of College Humanistic Chinese is the Provincial Quality Resource Sharing Course. The courses of Basic English, Applied Writing and Advanced English are the School-Level Quality Course. The courses of College English, Western Culture, English Phonetics and Business Translation are rated as the School-Level Quality Resource Sharing Course. With advanced teaching conditions and excellent equipment, the School is one of the universities which had earliest possession of the Provincial Demonstration Center of English Language Learning. The School is equipped with language training modules such as simultaneous interpretation, satellite reception and acquisition, film and television viewing, whole process recording and broadcasting, micro-teaching, as well as FM radio, abundant with teaching resources aided by modern education technology which is on-line, interactive and networking, and powerful for self-access language learning such as watching, listening, speaking, reading, writing, and interpreting.
The SFL is active in external cooperation, which carries out international exchanges and cooperation with University of Macy in New Zealand and Abai State Normal University in Kazakhstan, and build up internship and employment bases together with companies such as Transn, Eagle Eye Translation Service Co., Ltd, and You De Ke Lin Education Company. Each year, the School invites about 10 experts at home and abroad to give lectures, and assigns a number of teachers and students to further their studies, or exchange and visit in domestic or foreign universities.

Objectives:
The program adopts the broad caliber mode of “English + professional orientation”(2+2), and aims to foster compound and practical talents with international outlook, comparatively high humanity quality, English proficiency, professional knowledge in English and Chinese cultures, education, translation between English and Chinese, language service, etc, who are versed in using English and Chinese to engage in foreign affairs, translation, teaching, administration and researches and so on in the departments of foreign affairs, economics and trade, culture, journalism and publication, education, science and technology, military affairs, etc.

The Program of Business English
Objectives:
The program is designed to cultivate compound and practical business talents with a solid basic English skills, broad international outlook, as well as specialized international business knowledge and skills, who acquire basic knowledge and theory in Economics, Management, Law and other related disciplines, being equipped with comparatively high cross-cultural communication skills and cultural literacy and being skillful at using English to engage in business, economics and trade, management, finance, education, translation and so on in an international context.

Objectives:
The program lays stress on bilingual education in Chinese and English and aims at training applied specialized talents with solid basic knowledge of Chinese and English, who have a comprehensive understanding of Chinese literature, Chinese culture and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, and are able to engage in Chinese teaching in all kinds of schools at home and abroad as well as language and cultural exchanges and communication in the functional departments, press and publishing, cultural management, enterprises and institutions, and so forth.
