School of Material Science and Chemical Engineering

The School of Material Science and Chemical Engineering was founded in 1978, consisting of 4 schools, 2 institutes and 1 center, namely, school of material science and engineering, school of material forming and control engineering, school of light chemical engineering, school of chemistry and chemical engineering, Pulping and papermaking engineering research institute, green light industrial material research institute and school experiment center.

The school has 125 faculty staff, among which 96 full-time teachers, and 59 of them own senior professional post. 76 teachers have doctoral degree,accounting for 79.2% of all full-time teachers. 40 teachers are under 45 years old, 39 teachers are from 35 to 44, 17 teachers are under 35, which accounting for 41.6%, 40.6% and 17.8% of all full-time teachers respectively. Now the school has several young academic leaders researchers and scholars who have domestic influence in their researching fields. The school has 1101 undergraduate students, 15 technical experiment staff, 14 full-time administrators and 12 foreign teachers.  

The school has built the education pattern of combining research, teaching, theories, practice, professional education and quality education. In the last three years, the teachers have undertaken over 90 National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial, ministry-level research projects with total funds of more than 13 million yuan (8 projects awarded science and technology research result prize, 5 projects rated as international advanced level or domestic leading level). The researchers of the school have published over 130 papers, submitted 85 papers to three major index databases, filed 25 patent applications, undertaken 5 teaching research projects, published 3 textbooks and built 2 excellent courses. The school has maintained close communications and cooperation with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Loughborough University, Stockholm University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and other famous universities at home and abroad.

The graduates of the school have diverse options for employment. They can do high polymer material and inorganic non-metal material manufacturing, application, technical management and market development in research institutes and enterprises of automobile, electronics and electric, building material, petroleum and chemical industry, packaging, aerospace and aviation and other fields.
